    Wow.

Coming from a small town there was still incidents with dog fighting rings and violence but now, being next to Seattle it's amazing what you hear on the news.
And the amount of pit puppies available on craigslist is staggering. I myself adore pits, they are one of the best breeds IMO and to think that so many of these pups are going to end up in such a bad way is sickening. I was talking to a woman who is considering setting up a pit rescue for the area and I offered my dog obedience skills but there is only so much a few people can do.

It's just really sad what people come up with on the cruelty scale sometimes... Felt the need to run my mouth.

    Re: Wow.

Personally, I have only ran into one or two mean pits, and probably a hundred kind ones. I am not in to pits that much, but I don't think that they deserve the reps they have. Their rise into popularity as the mean dog to persecute has picked up as drug dealers have become more and more interested in them. Pits are one of the most loyal dogs and will always defend their owner with their life if necessary, and that is why they are so appealing for drug dealers to guard their stashes. I think this association is one of the big reasons people began hating them in the first place, and now the mention of their name evokes a negative response in most people...

Yes, you say pit bull and people start hiding their children. I personally always loved training them. I was one of the few who accepted pits back home. Pits, Dobermans, Rotties, all great dogs with bad raps.

    Re: Wow.

Ok i have for this subject, my family breed pits and my best friend still does. They are one of my favorite breeds of dog (aside from Great Danes) My friend's are beautiful and just big babies. But now in my state more and more counties are banning this breed for the the very reason you mentioned. I perosnally think there should be laws persecuting pet owens who arent resonsable for there pets instead of the animals. To add to this another friend of mine works for the animal patrol and they have to put these dogs "down" and it is horriable what these unresponsible pet owners to to these amazing dogs.

    Re: Wow.

Yeah, I see that a lot too.
I stopped watching the Animal cops shows because I got tired of seeing most of them automatically put pits down.
I in no way condone dog fighting but I have met some successfully rehabilitated fight dogs. They are in responsible adult households and are really good dogs. Their owners are aware of the added responsibility and liabilities of having such a dog and take the appropriate measures.
