    Re: thermostat help!

It sounds like you have two good choices in mind. I have a HerpStat (Spyder) and a Helix, and I like both. I haven't had any troubles, but with your conversion issue I would call either company directly and ask the makers. I'm sorry that I can't be more help, but electrical is not my forte.

    Re: thermostat help!

thanks for the help guys i will contact the company as soon as i decide which one to get.

Its between. Helix DBS1000 Proportional Therm and the Helix DBS1000 Prop. Therm. w gnd which i think the only difference is that one has a night temp drop feature correct me if im wrong. and the Herpstat Proportional Thermostat ND and the Herpstat Proportional Thermostat, they all seem very good, what makes one better than the other? should i just get the cheapest one which is the Herpstat Proportional Thermostat.

    Re: thermostat help!

The latter gnd has a grounded (3 prong) connection - as far as I know that's the only difference bewtween the two DBS1000's.

ND is the night drop unit.

I recently got the DBS1000 with ground. It will handle up to 500W - as will the ungrounded. What will you be running off it?

    Re: thermostat help!

i think i should buy the Herpstat Proportional Thermostat as it is the cheapest and don't need the night times drop feature not in the near future anyway and if i need it in the future i can alway just buy the night drop cable. is this a good decision? does anyone use it?

    thanks!

    Re: thermostat help!

If I were you, I would get the Herpstat 2- have you read anything about it?? It has 2 different outputs so you can control two different temps. and it will probably be cheaper than buying two T-stats... The wattage rating is also higher at 700watts per output!! I recommend you check it out!

    Re: thermostat help!

Just chiming in a good word for the original herpstat. I needed a stat quick and the herpstat ND is on back order from Spyder so few if any resellers will have it until next month. I went with the original herpstat direct from spyder, had it in two days...recieved this last Saturday. Set it up and its working great on my rack. Its a little bit cheaper than the ND and alot cheaper than the other herpstat models. If your just running it for a couple tubs and are not into breeding yet there is little reason to buy a more expensive one. If the tubs are way different in size than yes you want seperate controllers but if they are similiar you can easily run both. The ND has a few extra features such as built in night drop...but you can always add the night drop function to the original herpstat later on for a little bit more if you plan to cycle for breeding.
