    once bitten...

i havent been bitten yet but im gonna take precaution.

what would happen if i were to get bitten by my BP or any future snakes i might have? i know they have saliva so would the bite get infected? i know to not just pull my hand away because of the curved teeth.should i pull the mouth open to release my hand/fingers? and what would i use to treat the bite?

Haha...You aren't going to have a chance to do anything, they are so fast. A snake's strike is less of a bite and more like a punch with their mouth. They don't bite down at all, more just "hit you" with their teeth. If they get you good, it will draw blood, but doesn't really hurt all that much. Wash the bite area with soap and water and you'll be fine.

    Re: once bitten...

First the BP has the strongest venom of any heavy body constrictor on the planet. SO BE CAREFULL!!!. The first thing that happens is in the first 30 seconds your arm swells up huge as your leg. They normaly have to cut it off (bitten apendage) at the scene. Second if you survive the convulsions and don't swallow your tounge then you'll only be let missing an arm/leg and you'll limp for the rest of your life, twice as bad when its cold...

No its not bad he's right its over before you know it happened and then it's like. You little :cens0r: . I can't believe you bit me. Couple of little teeth holes and your good to go. That with a BP now a 12 - 33 foot retic or burm. Then your talking pain and blood. LOL

Please excuse the joke at the first just bord and need to vent.. LOL

    Re: once bitten...

Once in a while you do get one that hangs on. Usually it is only a feeding repsonse but you can gently unhook the mouth, or what most people do, wait them out. Pulling not only will worsen the slight wound but also runs the risk of yanking their teeth out, which could result in a mouth infection.
I've been bitten off and on, 99% of the time you will get hit, a few teeny papercut-like wounds. Clean it with betadine, or antiseptic soap. A little triple antibiotic gel and you are good to go. If they hang on, and it is a alrger ball python, you will want to be CERTAIN to treat it like a typical animal bite. GOOD cleaning with betadine and/or peroxide. Watch it for infection. Most times it is nothing to speak of.
Having said all that... I don't even wash the wounds when I get bit. But then I also barely rinse the blood off of the monitor bites I've received and I don't get any reddness, nor infection. I never seem to. Exceptionally strong immune system. Most people will get an infection for monitor bites, but the ball python ones are simple little paper cuts. Very minor.

    Re: once bitten...

Oh man, the other day I was going to pick up my bp and it was hissing and struck a couple of times, but I was too fast!! No really, I went to pick it up and it struck at me and I thought it missed hahaha, but then I saw a teeny tiny bit of blood. I have heard that het albinos can be a little fiesty, but mine is fine after I have him on my arm. The only thing that gets me is the lightning speed, like if you go to pick them up and just barely touch them, sometimes they will move really fast.

BTW, did the title of this remind anyone of the movie with Jim Carrey??

No I wasn't atacking your Intelligence . Just a shameless joke. You can do a search on here for bites there are some good pic's. Judy (JLC) got bit by her 2500 gram female and it barely broke the skin. Some young BP's like to bite and chew or bite a nd hang on. Older ones are more bite and retreat LOL.

You'll learn your snakes personality and body language. Just try to stay away from SFE (stupid feeding errors) or scaring your snake (this involves the "Oh my God Its a Huge Freaking Predator Responce") and you should be ok.

BUT be warned you deal with snakes long enough and you will get bit. Its only a matter of time. May be years may be days. It might not even be your snake that nails you I have never been bit by one of my snakes. Its alway friends or the pet shops animals that like to punch little holes in my fingers. I nothing to be afraid of its like dieing its going to happen.

Welcome to the sight and I hope this helps. Hit us up if you have any more questions
