Weird Feeding today....
So, i went to feed Ed today, and he bit at it, then he coiled up (like he does normally), then he stoped and let go and moved away from it, then he came back a few seconds later and started eating the snake. Is this normal? do any of your snakes do this? And if not...is there anything i can/should do about it?
Thanks all!

as long as it goes down and stays down i would not worry. sometimes my snakes just dont like me to watch them eat and will leave the prey there until i leave the room

Re: Weird Feeding today....
nope that's normal. every snake is different.
my ball - dexter constricts and then spends about 5 minutes poking it with his nose... flicking it with his tongue and then finally... he'll start eating LOL
my rtb - sabrina came over to her f/t the other day and sat there... watching me sit there in the room... she even attacked the side of her enclosure a few times... so i left and came back 2 minutes later... and she had eaten the mouse and climbed back under her hide LOL
my hog island - drake - he used to be fussy and now... he just constricts and eats. doesn't care if i'm watching and never ever ever takes his time. it's like he's never been fed before LOL
one of my corn snakes - gandalf... he'll take the mouse into his hide cause he doesn't want to take a chance that i'll watch him eat LOL
just some examples of how they are all different...

You have 1440 minutes a day... how are you going to spend yours?

I'm really hoping you meant to say that he started eating his rat.

All snakes are unique and each situation unique as well. What your snake might do one week, it might not do another. As long as the snake is healthy, eating it's prey and so forth.....it's all good. Remember, for a snake, consuming a whole prey item is a very vulnerable moment so it may not appreciate a lhuman hovering over or nearby to watch the process.

That is too cute. Our corn is a bit shy about eating as well. Once when we fed him while he was wrap around my hand (My hubby insisted to do this and get a photoshot) and he constricted the rat pup and then he pulled the food up my arm and into my hair so I couldnt watch him eat. I was like "...Help?" And my husband though it was finny. Especially when the snake was done eating and tangled himsel fin my hair. Silly lil guy.
A weird thought past through my mind.
Just thinking if the Police Raided my home, they'd see a 14ft retic slithering around, a large redtailboa, a large Ball python who acts like a lap cat, and a corn snake who thinks he can make a nest out of my hair... and if they went inside my garage and checked inside my freezer... they'd find dead bodies.
RIP Billy

Re: Weird Feeding today....
the olive pythons i had would not eat seperated, but it was cool to watch i would give them a rat and one would take it, usually the female first, while the male would keep a look out till she was done then he would eat and she would keep a look out for him. your snake probably just wanted to make shure there was no threat while he ate?
