    Bone deformality?

Anybody ever heard of it? I saw a ball python at the herp shop by my job and it was a female...$150 big as heck...nice and thick eating like crazy but it's got a bump on its back that concerns me. I didn't buy it... I wanted to find out if anybody has heard of this though. They had a vet x-ray it and he said it was bone deformality. Is this something that can pass down to it's baby's? would it hinder breeding? it's right in the middle of it's body. Just wondering...any responses would be appreciated.

    Re: Bone deformality?

The reason the guy put $150 on it was because he couldn't guarantee if it was capable or breeding or not. He hasn't tried.

Is this the same female you've been talking about in this thread?

What did the owner/seller of the snake say the lump was? I have no idea, and wouldn't presume to guess...but I'd have it thoroughly checked out by a vet before spending a dime.

    Re: Bone deformality?

No it actually is a differen't female. Completely differen't from a known breeder in my area.

Said it was x-rayed by a vet and the vet said it was a bone deformaty

I have not personaly dealt with any snakes with deformabilities before.I have been told though it could cause problems during breeding attempts or just attempting to poo. This of course depends on where the "kink" is and how large it is.I have seen some where its just a teenie tiny bend to where the neck is bent sideways.Myself i would not breed a snake with this problem, just out of sorrow for it being like it is.

I acquired a female similar to that last year that eats like a pig, bred last year (was told she has laid the previous 3 years), and layed 8 BIG eggs, and all her babies are perfectly healthy. I was told she injured her spine as an escaped youngin' and the growth seems to be solid bone. If it was born this way I would be hesitant, but if was caused by an injury, it will likely have no effect on her breeding future.

    Hope this helps,
    -Evan

    Re: Bone deformality?

Well it does eat very well which you can notice just by looking at it. The kink itself is just on the top of it's back..

But he did say that it poo's fine and doesn't take any longer to go.

    Re: Bone deformality?

I'm really sure it is all bone... I will say 99.9% because it's rock hard just like bone. There's no skin mutation or scar's where it is at. The snake is about
    4 1/2 -5ft long and thick as H**L !

Does he know how the "kink" got like it is?
