Quarantining is much more than just keeping them in separate enclosures (which is good to do anyway) Keeping the new snake in a separate room, or as far away as possible from your established snake as possible is what you should do. Always take care/handle your old snake first, and after you do anything with the new snake, wash your hands very thoroughly. Use separate husbandry equipment for your new snake (ie. tongs water dishes etc) and generally keep them as separate as possible.
Quarantines typically last anywhere from 1-3 months. It is very much worth it.
