Opinions on breeding plans.
I am looking for some opinions on who I should breed this coming season. I have 3 females aver 1600 grams now, so here are a couple options I have considered:
1. Rotate Blaze (Male Pastel ~650 g) through all three females, and with fingers crossed get at least get 2 clutches of pastels/normals.
2. Put Blaze with my largest female (~1875 g), put Jack (Het Pied ~700 g)with another, and put Magnum (Het Albino ~600 g) with the third. I could end up with clutches of pastels/normals, 50% het pieds, and 50% het albinos.
I also have another female that is about 1300 g. I considered keeping her warm for a couple more months, and in the spring tying to pair her with RC my albino male. That would be assuming that I can get RC to at least 550 grams by then.
Since this is my first season trying to get them to breed, what does everonye think my best chances for success are? And what would others do in the same situation?
Thanks,
Neil

I think...and most people will probably say the same...that you should try what you want to or what you hope to achieve. If you want to try all 3 different options and see what comes out, or go with one trait/male and put him to all 3 females and have a better chance at getting something from that one type.

I've thought much along the same lines - but I have another year to think about it, when I should have about four girls ready and four boys.
I guess the question I'll have to ask myself - and would pose to you. What are your long term goals? Which season were you hoping to have the 50% possible girls you produce ready to breed?
I know you have Spirit, would it be worth it to hold back Jack this season and pair him up next season with Spirit and use that female to be paired with Blaze instead?

Here in europe you get more than triple for a pastel versus possible hets. alb/pied.
I would go for three females pastel clutches.

Heres my two cents worth. Breed what will produce morphs first. i.e Pastels. wroks with hets on the side.

Well, as for the possible het girls, that would most likely be three years down the line. I guess my other concern is how big do I want my "hobby" to get? I am having a blast right now, and can't wait to see my first clutch of eggs.
I was going to try to pair Spirit with my other het pied male (Bruno) next year, as Jack is actually Spirits brother. Jack is just bigger now, and is actually my largest "morph" male.
The smart thing to do I think would be breed all to Blaze, and hope for at least one good clutch (assuming he will breed this year).
I have been going back and forth and its driving me nuts.....

Yeah, that is my wifes point too. Hopefully we will be producing Homozygus and 100% Hets of both Albinos and Pieds in the next year or two. She thinks I am nuts for even considering doing anything but breed Blaze this year.

Re: Opinions on breeding plans.
If it were me, I'd put the pastel to two of the females and the het pied to another one. Keep all the females that hatch no matter what they are. despite the price drop in pastel males, it's still a lot easier to find homes for them then it is to find homes for 50% possible het pied or albino males.
