pastel x albino
What would a pastel albino look like, has this been done before.
i realise that you would need to cross an albino to a pastel then cross the pastel hets, but just wondering if they would look any different to normal albinos?

Yes.... they are distinguishable.... but barely. They're usually distinguished by a faded white head..... and they're slightly brighter.
In my humble opinion, they don't blow my skirt up.... but they have great potential as breeders.
And yes... its been done... Pics at RDR's website.... He also made a Pastel Lav. Albino this year....

Someone help me out with the genetics here...I thought I was getting a grasp on it...but this makes me think otherwiese....
Albino is a recessive gene...so I thought you needed to have albino on "both sides" to show any visible albino traits...so then would an albino pastel simply look like a pastel...and carry the albino gene? If it is recessive...and is mixed with a pastel gene...then it should not be visible....?
Can anyone clarify for me?
Thanks!

Yes, to make a pastel albino you would need, at very least, 1 pastel 100% het albino and 1 100% het albino.
so then would an albino pastel simply look like a pastel...and carry the albino gene?
An albino pastel looks like an albino, but with very subtle differences such as a lighter head, and maybe a more washed out pattern on its back where some blushing may be. But these patterns are just as variable as pastels, so you can't be totally certain.
If it is recessive...and is mixed with a pastel gene...then it should not be visible....?
Albino and pastel are totally seperate genes and do not have any known effect on each other.
Hope that helps.
