Aspen mites??
I recently went to visit a pet store that was using aspen chips not the shredded type, he was showing me some stuff, and in some of his tubs he has what looked like fruit flies, he called them aspen mites and said they don't bother the snakes. Anyone hear of this or experienced it??

Re: Aspen mites??
If they where properly caring for their animals there would not be any insects where they shouldn't be. I've never heard of "aspen mites" take care that you didn't bring any home with you on your clothes.

Re: Aspen mites??
Yea i don't have any snakes here (im in another state for a few more weeks) They were in with his breeding colony of bps, which i thought was wierd. They didn't look like snake mites, they looked more like friut flies. I didn't see them in all of his cages, just a few which i thought was really wierd. I had never heard of "aspen mites" before either but i haven't used aspen so i wasn't sure. Thanks for the info!
if anyone else has any ideas or experience feel free to let me know!

I've never heard of aspen mites, but I know some people find bugs in their aspen. You can 'bake' your aspen to get rid of them. They are not snake mites, but anything crawling is not cool in my house.

Re: Aspen mites??
I use to get little bugs in my Reptibark but they where not snake mites.
That's the reason I switched to Natures Best because it is already heat treated. Since switching I have not notice a thing and that was over a year ago.
