    Hmmmmm....

You could do a topic such as "Why snakes/reptiles make great pets"

Or... "How to care for your snake/reptile pet"

Or... "How to identify native species and recognize venomous snakes in our area" (If you live in an area with an interesting diversity of snakes)

Or... "How snakes benefit our environment and why they should not be killed on sight."

I think you'd have to narrow things down a bit more than just "all herps"...but being open to any herp topic certainly gives you a LOT to sift through and choose from. See if you can get your hands on a stack of Reptiles magazines and flip through those for a huge range of animals and topics to consider.

Sounds like a fun project to be working on, however you decide to go!

I think it's a wonderful idea that you're going to do your project on herps. If it were me, and you're not, I'd suggest doing it specifically on snakes. Then, I'd possibly narrow it down to your country of origin...that is, if your country of origin "houses" snakes. I don't think Alaska has any. ^_^
Then, if your country of origin has snakes, I might narrow it down to your snake. There are wonderful books out there on snakes in different snakes. Justin and I just picked up a book, Snakes in Virginia or something like that. Then, talk about the environment, how we can protect them, etc, etc, etc. OR...do the pet approach. Take pictures of your scalekids. There's so many things you could do for this...I'm jealous.

I dont have an Idea for you, but one thing i learned from college english is that broader is NOT easier to write a paper on. get as specific as you can with you're topic for easier writing just a suggestion from experience of a VERY difficult college course
