Congratulations! Now you need to get two more enclosures so they can all have their own enclosures and you'll be set! (I remember your first two you're housing together, right?).Originally Posted by bjthomps
My wife (TheAudOne) and I have been posting here for a short time about the 2 BPs we recently acquired. We got them from a lady that was taking horrible care of them and didn't want them anymore. She bought them both (very young) 2 years ago from a pet store. Today we took them to get them probed. With all the posts I have been seeing recently about how hard it is to get your hands on a female at a reasonable price - and considering how we got these - I was sure we had 2 males.
I was WRONG!The smaller snake (the one we gave a female name, probably because he was smaller so we thought girl) is a 2 year old male. The larger one (which we gave a male name - so we will be changing both names) is a 2 year old FEMALE - weighing in at 1,147 grams!! We couldn't believe our luck!
As we were getting the news, in walked 2 college-aged guys. Each was carrying a ball python - they were there to get them sexed as well. Their 2 were very similar to ours - one was shorter and smaller and the other was considerably longer and quite plump. As the lady was probing them, the guys noticed my wife and I had two balls and said "want 2 more"? They apparantly wanted to get rid of theirs. We were considering it....and then the lady finished her probe. Their smaller snake was a male (they weren't sure how old) and the larger of the 2 (they thought around 4-5 years old) was a FEMALE! We asked them what they wanted for the snakes...and they didn't want much. We bought both the male and the female, as well as a 40 gallon breeder from them for $180!
So, we went in to get both of our 2 year olds probed - and found that one was a female. Then we left with 2 additional BPs, a small male of unknown age, and a 4-5 year old female weighing in at 1,508 grams!! (We spent the next few hours running around town getting proper habitats for everyone!)
Quite a day for our little family. I am sure my wife will post some pictures for everyone later on....I just had to write about our awesome day!![]()
