soaking?
what does it mean when your bp is sitting INSIDE the water bowl? normally my bp sits in his hide on the warm side.

Re: soaking?
Could mean any number of things:
1. He may have mites and is trying to find relief in the water.
2. His cage is too warm and he's trying to cool off.
3. He's trying to find a snugger hide than he currently has.
4. He just ate a big meal and is trying to ease some of the pressure.
5. He just felt like it.

Re: soaking?
I have a very healthy adult female BP that soaks when she is going into shed even when I raise the humidity, she does this at no other time and it works for her, she sheds quickly and in one piece. BUT it could also be any of the other things listed above.

Re: soaking?
dunno how he would get mites. its just him in and him alone in the tank. this was his second adult size mouse for a meal. and he started doing this soaking thing since then. how do bp's get mites if there in a tank all by themselves?

Re: soaking?
If it came into your home already carrying mite EGGS...then they can hatch some weeks later and begin a mite colony from seemingly out of nowhere. OR....if you visit a store that has mites and handle any of their animals, some might hitch a ride home on your clothes.

Seems normal... lol. What do you need help with?
My normal bp Kole has been soaking for the last 2 weeks. I figured it was because he is about to shed. The only evidence I have of that is his very pink belly! Does yours have a pink belly?

If he has mites and is soaking in his water dish, there will be mites in his water dish. Look for little black dots that are smaller than the head of a pin and shaped like a tick. If you see black dots, look at them with a magnifying glass. Mites look very much like a tick. You can google "snake mites" and see pics.
But, if he's only started this since going to adult mice, it may be the "large meal" thing. How big is your snake?
