Humidity???

What is the best Humidity range for a BP? I just found this forum a few days ago and have learned so much. I live in a higher humidity area and i'm not sure how much is too much!!

On another note, I also have a Common Nile Monitor, who is less than 1 year, very nervous creature. If anyone has info would love to learn more.

Between 50-60% and some people go to around 65-70% during shed. I keep mine in the 50-60 range and it is about to shed for the first time in this range(last time was the first and i was having humidity problems). My boa shed in the 50-60 range and had a perfect shed

Not good. Drill some holes or get some sort of vents. Are you ambient temps @ 79*? What are you using to measure temps? You need your hot surface temps to be about 90* and your cool side around 80* with ambient temps(air temp) around 85

Ok, new @ this ... i got the temp up and the humidity down ambient is @ 86 hum @ 55. I am actually looking into a regulator ??? (any sugesstions) right now i'm using just what i could get my hands on locally. which is a Flukers digital suck on wall, not so good, but i'm tring. I just modified her "tank" with new substrait and am tring to make her as comfortable as possiable.. any more sugestions?? Thank you so much!

sure sure...What kind of bedding are you using?

Find a wal-mart and around the outdoor section (normally around the paint section), pick yourself up an acurite digital thermometer. It has a probe that you can put on the warm end, and then put the thermometer itself on the cool end. It also measures humidity....it's a great little product for like 12 bucks...I'd say 90% of ppl use them. They're excellent for a quick look to see how warm/cool/humid your tank is.

Your setup is looking like a good start. I'm gonna assume a couple of things based on the picture and what it looks like:


One...standard glass tank with a screen top? It looks like the screen is at least partially covered with a towel? If you remove that cover, it will allow for more airflow, which will help reduce the humidity level.

Two...that substrate looks like the shredded cocunut husk (Bed-a-Beast, Ecoearth, or whatnot), which is a good one to use. However, when you first prepare it, it soaks up a LOT of water and can take a long time to dry out completely...and that also may be contributing to your excessive humidity. Again, removing that cover and allowing some air to circulate will help dry that out some. Also, if you stir it around with your fingers once or twice a day to bring up the moister stuff on the bottom and expose it to air, it'll dry faster.

And of course, as Nate already mentioned...getting an accurate digital thermometer/hygrometer in there will help you learn exactly what your environment is like, and that will dictate what more steps need to be taken to make it perfect.
