Two headed Mojave produced..
Wow.. I just saw on another forum that Gulf Coast Reptiles, has produced a two-headed Mojave BP.. weird! I just kept staring at the pic with my mouth open; showed it to my boyfriend, who is a tad jaded about me constantly pulling him over to the computer to see pics of morphs; and HE was bug-eyed..
I wonder if it is genetic, or a sporadic thing? I also wonder if they'd ever decide to sell it, or keep it; and mostly, I wonder which head eats!
I didn't want to post the pic for fear of copyright/tact issues, but i am sure Google would help if you wanted to see it.

Re: Two headed Mojave produced..
From what I heard it was a two headed YB and it died. Or did they hatch another two headed morph after that?

I think it's just a developmental anomaly... don't two headed snakes usually die within the first months of hatching?

I almost always have new snake photos - check here!

Re: Two headed Mojave produced..
I went to a pet store in fountain valley, and they had a two headed kingsnake and another two headed snake (another kingsnake i think...) both were alive (not so sure if they were healthy, that whole place was pretty gross).

Re: Two headed Mojave produced..
Dicephalism occurs occasionaly in some reptiles, and certain species seem more prone to having this occur. It seems to be caused by incorrect incubation temps based on findings on the British grass snake (Natrix natrix), and is thought to be an incomplete twinning of the embryo. California kings and RES are two species that I have seen multiple individuals with two heads. Bob Clark even has had a two-headed Cal. king for a while, but I have never heard of a BP born this way. I think the main problem with those snakes that survive to begin eating, is competing with the other head for food. If they always fight, they don't survive long. There was a great article on dicephalism in snakes in the Feb. 2004 reptiles magazine. That's too bad about the YB though, I would have liked to see that.
