I would post a link, but the site is a little less than Family Friendly...
Steve Irwin Ripped by PETA: Crocodile Hunter 'Cheap Reality Star'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Josh Hart
Sep 11, 2006
Steve Irwin has barely been laid to rest but the critics from his enemies already seem to be reveling in the fact that he was killed by an animal. Aussie feminist Germaine Greer got the ball rolling by saying that animals took their revenge on Irwin.
Steve Irwin Ripped by PETA: Crocodile Hunter 'Cheap Reality Star'
"The animal world has finally taken its revenge on Irwin, but probably not before a hole generation of kids in shorts seven sizes too small has learned to shout in the ears of animals with hearing 10 times more acute than theirs, determined to become millionaire animal-loving zoo-owners in their turn," she wrote in a bitter column aimed at getting her publicity.

Now here comes a member of PETA to pile on.
Jeannette Walls of MSNBC reports that the group's Dan Mathews says that it's "no shock at all" that Irwin died the way he did, and he's also branded Irwin a "cheap reality TV star."
"He made a career out of antagonizing frightened wild animals," says PETA's Mathews, "which is a very dangerous message to send to kids." And Mathews sniffs that Irwin's career wasn't particularly impressive – at least not to him:
"If you compare him with a responsible conservationist like Jacques Cousteau, he looks like a cheap reality TV star."

Ah - I get it now. This will certainly make me run over to PETA to donate. It's really sad that folks like Greer and Mathews revel in the death of Steve Irwin and then try to use it to their advantage.
But I can't say that it is surprising in the least.

Now another one, but from PETA themselves...

Couldn't they at least WAIT another month or so to make things public?????

Shaun... it's PETA. They are a bunch of nuts IMO! I'm actually surprised they didn't jump out and make this public the first day that it happened to Steve.

I know it's PETA, but it's really rude what they are saying about Steve, whether they are crazy or not!

Re: You GOTTA be kidding me...
Yeah it's rude/wrong what they are saying/doing on Steve's passing, but then again a lot of things they do are not nice. I just try to ignore them because if not I'll get all razzed up, ticked off and that is just feeding those trolls what they want.

Re: You GOTTA be kidding me...
I have nothing good to say for PETA. Even if something they say is partially true and I would agree with it (such as their opinion that animal abuse is bad,) it always leads to their own twisted ends. Coo-coo, coo-coo!

Re: You GOTTA be kidding me...
This is very rude. PETA sometimes has stupid members and say stupid things. Steve Irwin did maybe pick up frightened animals but he was so gentle and nice to them, telling kids why they shouldnt pick them up, he's an expert. He put his life in risk for the kids and families today. So they know more about animals. It may have frightened animals. But I disbelieve they would take revenge on Steve. Look at all the animal murderers, that abuse and neglect and actually torture animals. They wouldnt take revenge oon someone who was gentle with this even if they were a bit frightened. But then again more than just PETA is saying this. I have heard a lot of "Steve diserved what he got comming" from many people at work and in town. But I always stick up for Steve and give people lectures about Steve how he WAS a great animal saver and if it wasnt for him a lot of people would not know as much as they do about animals today.

Re: You GOTTA be kidding me...
Lord Grant me the strenght to change the things I can. And the Wisdom to except the things I can't.
we all have to understand that PETA is going to use tatics that, to animal lover and keepers, will at time feel hurtfull. Our only hope is that our message that animals are here to be enjoyed and some even looked after. Humans are not a nonimpact animal we impact the enviroment anywhere we go. Some times on purpose some times not. As responsiable people we try to keep our impact as little as possiable when needed.
It is our charge as reptile keepers and as animal lovers to spread our message. And spread it in a way that shows, with out finger pointing, that groups like PETA ask the inpossiable. Their goal is that humans be a nonimpact animal in it's enviroment. We as learned people can present our message. Some will see the truth some will not. We have to except that.
Getting upset at PETA is not the answer when anyone brings them up and there newest thing. Be knowledgable enough in our hobby to defend our lifestyle, useing the facts.
And when they just don't want to see our side or can't understand it. Have the control and wisdom to simply except that that person probaly will never except our life style. Take comfort in the fact that at least once for sure they were told the absolute truth, by you, and they made their own choices which to take.
Steve Irwin did great things for the conservation of reptiles and wildlife. In my option PETA should be thanking and honoring him. Instead they chose to use his death as a media work horse, instead of his life. That leave us with his life to use as ours ....use it well.
