BPnet Veteran
ibd
well im pretty sad today. champ my rescue 6 foot bci has been stargazing alot lately and i took him to the vet for ibd testing. he is in my "special snake room" which is in my room and there are only 4 snakes in it(in my snake room i have 24 snakes but most are hatchlings). "monte" my first ever snake is very close to me and i would die if i lost her. with her the 2 other snakes (besides champ and monte) are mojo my 600 gram bp and "sly" my new graziani pastel. there is no guarentee on ibd because testing isnt complete but my vet is leaning on it being positive.*sigh* this is what i get for keeping a boa(this is my only boa)
wish me luck

Re: ibd
A ray of hope... if you've been keeping her in the same room as pythons, the pythons would probably have already shown symptoms of IBD (the incubation in boas is longer than pythons). If your pythons seem okay, your boa may be sick with something else.
In any case, I hope she gets better!

Re: ibd
All my best wishes going out to you and your scaley babies. I just went through my own scare on IBD, hoping it turns out as good for you as it did for me! HUGS!

Just because you vet thinks the boa will be positive does not confirm it has IBD.Is this a boa you recently accuired? Like allready mentioned here if the boa had IBD your pythons would be dead in a short time(i think its a couple months).Until you have the test results try not to think bad thoughts .

I hope things turn out for the best!
Also I'd like to point out, that walking on your snake while it's looking up is not a reason to panic or automatically think IBD. I think with the post from BW, we've all of a sudden seen a new found surge of people in a panic mode looking for IBD.
It may be IBD and it may not be IBD, maybe the snake just felt like looking up.
Hope things work out.

IBD has been a cause of panic for quite a while and there are still no hard statistics (that I am aware of, please someone prove me wrong!) showing that it is even mildy prevalent in the herp world. Don't be so quick to think your boa has IBD. Also, most vets wouldn't know Inclusion Body Disease from Irritable Bowel Disorder or Investors Business Daily. Boas tend to stretch up and in fact mine does it all the time when she has fouled the cage. I come in and see her trying to get away from the smell and its how I know that a St. Bernard has visited her enclosure. Best of luck and I hope it all works out for you.
