Contrary to what I've learned...
The caresheets on vpi.com mention a few differences in temperatures.
"ball pythons can be kept in a cage that has a night time low temperature of 79-81 °F and a daytime high temperature of 81-85 °F."
"In actual practice, this species is kept very successfully in cages with ambient temperatures in the range of 78-83 °F with a small basking area heated to temperatures of 85-88 °F."
I also noted that the last time this caresheet was updated was Feb. 2003. I'm just looking for some input on this.
Thanks

I guess I'm curious why the ~10 degree difference for the hot side. I know it's 3 years older than the caresheets on this site...but 3 years isn't that big of a difference. Is there any evidence to suggest that bp's are happier with cooler temps?

I think that there are many many ways to keep these animals and be successful ... That is the way Tracy chooses to keep her animals based on her experience ... my way is different ... it's not a matter of being right or wrong, just different.
As far as a bp being happier one way or the other ... if both ways lead to healthy, eating, reproducing snakes ... how does it matter?

Re: Contrary to what I've learned...
If they're healthy then you're doing something right. As you say Adam, do what works for you. I guess if I really want to find out then I need to experiance it first hand and see if there is a noticable difference. but I'm sure these tests have been done time and time again. So i'd almost rather not waste the time and effort to get results that already exist.
Thanks Adam

Re: Contrary to what I've learned...
I use to have my temps higher at 92 degrees on the hot end and I had a few snakes that werent eating including the Pastel male that I got from Tracy from VPI. I emailed her for some advice I described my whole set and temps and she said they were to high I set the temps as she recomended and in less than a week all my balls were eating. I asked her why the drastic difference in temps and she said she couldnt speak for the other breeders but that that is what works for her. In my case her way works for me so that how I manage my temps for my balls.
Like Adam says its not that Tracy is right and others are wrong its just that thiers more than one way to do things and get the same results.
