Does Aspen raise/retain heat?
So like i said in a previous post, I stuck the thermometer probe to the bottom of a tub. Today, i put the aspen over the probe. A few hours later i checked the temps and my thermometer read 95 on the hot side
without the aspen, my hot side was reading a very constant ~91-92
Humidity is up to 62% after adding a water bowl too...so it's time to put some holes in.

Re: Does Aspen raise/retain heat?
Yeah, the aspen will trap heat against the floor of the tub...like a blanket.
Nice picture you have in your avatar today! Please tell your lovely lady I said "hi"!!!

Re: Does Aspen raise/retain heat?
tank you tank you Judy
Is it better to get a read from the bottom of the tub, or on top of the substrate?
I would think bottom of the tub because snakes like to burrow and move the substrate around till there is no more....
I need one of those laser temp guns.
I went over to Alice's place last night to check out her collection (had an awesome time!) and they were using a laser thermometer....very cool.

Re: Does Aspen raise/retain heat?
Nathan, 95 isn't going to hurt anything. I keep my hot sides at 94.5(using Herpstat 2) and my cool sides at 84, and all of mine spend regular amounts of time on both sides. I have both of the probes taped to the bottom of the tub, with 2 sheets of indented kraft paper on top, and the temps on top of the paper are 94 or so. Mine like it nice and toasty
