Anybody know what kind of snake this? I think it is a king snake but im not sure. I would have caught it but that isnt easy with crutches. It was about 6 feet long.

Only reason we killed it was because it almost bit my friends dog and plus it was an apt. complex in North Dallas.

Not sure about the breed of snake but it's late may they shed heavy this time of year and they all go dull. I went to my farm this weekend and fun with the cottonmouths. I fired about 30 of them.

I've already had to kill four copperheads at my place so far this year.
That really looks like a Rat snake though. I killed a whole family of them. They shake theyr tails like a rattle snake but there are no rattles......
The colors look close and there are MANY shades they come in.

Glad to see everyone is calm. So how about me getting rid of all the previous drama and start a good conversation based off of the original post about how some people have the fear and misunderstanding of reptiles and fell that 'the only good snake is a dead snake'. I can talk all day about 'those kinda people'....and have some interesting stories too

You can't blame them for not being educated about snakes. Maybe their parents or the way they grew up, taught them that snakes are evil ???

As Portrayed in the Bible...but that's only because back then that's what people could relate to. Having a natural fear of the dark and many snakes being nocturnal..slithering, people just came to fear them

When everyone went to the state capital to get the last anti-reptile bill shot down in LA.....You should have heard the State Rep go on and on about how he kills snakes all the time and if his neighbors had snakes he would kill them....on and on...over and over again....I will have to see if I can dig up the transcripts of the meeting....very sad too...because it is not like anyone could stand up and tell the guy he is an idiot....without getting hauled off by the state police

It kinda made me mad.....but being the person that I am...I find humor in everything....The representative was representing the opinion of an animal rights activist....but went on and on about how he kills animals....anyone else find that ironic?...huh

I know a few other member from LA were there too....that guy was a joke wasn't he?

I don't know why people are so afraid of snakes, spiders, and stuff. Heck my mother almost passes out everytime she sees a cockroach.

Eve's first pet was a snake. God only punished the snake because it tried to seduce Eve to the dark side. But that was way back in the mists of antiquity. I think that many species of snake have redeemed themselves...

Re: look what I came across?

I always try to think that it is something in our history that makes people afraid of snakes.

However, it seems odd when you compare cultures. Some fear snakes, some worship snakes, some do both We live in a country that is rather 'weak' in terms of fierce snakes.....LOL....we have no cobras, mambas or giant pythons! Yet we are probably the most afraid of snakes from what I have seen....I wonder why that is?

Just that, it's something we do not know about so we fear them out of ignorance
    (lack of education)
Which btw, Mr.Steve Irwin made a life goal to educate. He wasn't just a contervationist (sp), he was an educator
