New male breeder advice..?
I just got my Pastel male last week. I really want to breed him this year; he is around 500g. I was told to wait until a male is up over 600b before trying to breed.
So what would you do; he is still acclimating, but I figure I can get some feedings in before November.. but I also think I read that males either go off-feed or are kept off feed before breeding; any advice on a schedule I can use for this? I do not mind waiting through december or later to breed, but I want to use him.

I guess we'll see. Don't worry, I am letting him acclimate; he is just being a normal BP for now; hiding during the day, cruising at night. I'll just play it by ear and see how it goes; worst comes to worst, I'll breed her to my normal male; but I reallllly want Pastel babies.

Re: New male breeder advice..?
Jen,
You don't have to breed in Nov. or Dec., you can always wait until Jan. or even Feb. Being that you bought an 05 Male, I think he will be fine. Feed him for the next couple of months, and see what he does. I bet you won't have any problems getting him to a good 700 grams. Also, some of my males will eat during the first month or two of breeding, so if you want, you can always put him in with a female in late Nov. and see what he does. If he goes right at it, then he was ready. Seeing that you will only be breeding him to one or two females, he shouldn't be too taxed, and lose alot of weight. If you were planning on breeding him to 6 or 7 females, you may want a little more weight on him. Don't start worrying yet, you still have a few months. I bet he breed great for you.
Good Luck,
