What a rush!!!!
Well, today marked the tenth day I've had my BP (still deciding on a name) and my order of rat pinkies came in today so, I figured he must be hungry by now. My breeder (Tim) was feeding him live and managed to get him to take a few P/K rat pinks so, I prepared myself for a refusal of the F/T. I was so nervous before the feeding, it was weird. I thawed it in warm water, then dried it off and set it under a heat lamp for a few minutes. I even turned the rat over to "cook" each side, under the lamp (like on a grill LOL). I was dangling the rat near his cool hide (since he was in it) kind of swinging it back and forth. Then, just as I was thinking he wasn't going to do a thing..... BAM!!! It was so fast, like crazy fast. My heart was going a mile a minute. He took it and I'm hoping he ate it (don't want to bug him). I actually had to go take the dog for a walk around the block to "calm down". I'm sooooooooo happy right now. He's still in his cool hide so, I assume he'll go to the warm side when he needs to. Should I have watched him to make sure he actually ate it? I just left him and figured he would eat it. Yay for his first feed with me! Sorry so long--I'm just so excited right now. My friends at work are in for a great snake story tomorrow

Re: What a rush!!!!
Yea if you're not feeding live their really is no danger, worst thing that could happen would be coming home to a regurge, but that would be a weird occrance. Its amazing how fast they can be when striking, I sometimes get a little startled if they're in the hides and I can't see them strike. An eating snake is a happy snake...keep up the good work

Re: What a rush!!!!
LOL. Congrats on the first feed. I hope you didn't get too many of those rat pinks, though. A baby Ball can easily take rat fuzzies or pups right out of the egg. Next time, try feeding 2 or 3 pinks (let him get one down first, then offer the next one).

Congrats on the successful first feeding! It's a wonderful thing to have a BP with a nice aggressive feeding response.

Tina,
I'm glad to hear that your little guy took a F/T rat for you. I do believe that his last meal with us was a rat pup. He can probably take a liitle bit bigger meal. However, since you still have some left, I would say to take Lawrence's advice and feed him two if he will eat them. Congrats on your first feeding. Make sure you keep me updated with pics of that guy, he is a looker.
