I think drilling holes is usually done to regulate humidity. Since rubbermaids are so cheap, maybe you should put some holes in one and see if it regulates the heat any better...if you mess up, you have one for back up.
Actually I have in glass tanks now. They have been working out great with humidity and temps to the point that I threw on here.



Here's a picture of my setup (small!). This was before I added the second UTH on the cool side. I was able to eliminate the light after I did that. You all were right about glass being harder to setup. It took alot of tweaking but I think I am almost there. So far, both Babe and Monty seemed to enjoy them since they have done all of their snaky things like shedding, eating, etc.
