Yet another heating question

I have a quick question for the group. On my hot side the temps are holding nicely with a under hide temp of 92 and outside temp of 84-85. On the cool side though I added a UTH heater because it would drop to like 74-75. So on this side now my temp inside cool hide is high ... around 85 and my outside hide temps are 76-77. I have this side on a dimmer switch and my hot sides are on thermostats. If I boost the dimmer switch to get the outside cool hide temp up, then my inside cool hide temp will climb even higher. I was thinking about drilling some holes in the top of his hide but then doesn' t this defeat the purpose of the hide? Just wondering what everyone else uses to keep their cool hide temps not too warm while maintaining the temps on the outside.

This information here is one of the many reasons I do not use a dimmer. If I were you, I would switch to a thermostat. IMO..it is probably much easier to set

I hear ya! I was using dimmer on cool side because I just wanted a little heat to keep it at 80. The problem is that if I turn it up to get 80 on the outside, my cool side hide climbs to like 90. Should I drill a couple holes in the cool side hide so that heat can escape? I think I am going to take one of my thermostats and throw it on the cool side one for now and move the dimmer on the hot side. See how that works for awhile. Eventually I plan on getting thermostats for all of them. Anyone have any old herpestats laying around that they want to get rid of?

Try it out....as most say, do what works for you.

I think drilling holes is usually done to regulate humidity. Since rubbermaids are so cheap, maybe you should put some holes in one and see if it regulates the heat any better...if you mess up, you have one for back up.

Actually I have in glass tanks now. They have been working out great with humidity and temps to the point that I threw on here.



Here's a picture of my setup (small!). This was before I added the second UTH on the cool side. I was able to eliminate the light after I did that. You all were right about glass being harder to setup. It took alot of tweaking but I think I am almost there. So far, both Babe and Monty seemed to enjoy them since they have done all of their snaky things like shedding, eating, etc.
