Thinking about going arboreal.

Just wanted some opinions from the reptile people I trust and respect.

The last several months I've been researching ETBs, ATBs, and GTPs...I can't really make up my mind on which I would rather work with. My main prerequisite was a great display snake...I know either can be quite "feisty" for lack of a better word, and caging requirements are roughly the same so I'm mainly looking for some pros/cons of each...or other suggestions.

If you've worked with any list your experiences/opinions...oh, and feel free to shoot me some recommended breeder websites. (I've searched KS, google, etc...and only have found 3 or 4)

Feel free to post pictures aswell.

I don't have any experience, but the GTP is one I'd chose. I looooooove their colors and variety of shades from baby to adult. This is one of the snakes I'd be getting once I get enough experience.....AND room in my house! hee hee

Have U checked Brad's site??? He's the breeder of my RTB, Wrigley...Okay..yeah, I know the guy personally from a while back, but I like him & he did right by me w/my snake. www.bradsworldreptiles.com. He may have some in stock. I just hit his site, and his RTBs are a little less expensive now than when I bought Wrigley in Dec.

Maybe you'll like his..............

From the three listed.....GTP would be my #1 choise since this would be your first 'higher' level snake.

....but if you are looking for a great display snake....IMHO...you could not go wrong with any morelia because they all generally make great display snakes.....However, I like semi-arboreal carpet pythons a little more than arboreal tree pythons because they seem to move around a little more to me and can handle alot more interactive (i.e. you can handle them a bit more). They are also a little easier to care for so that is less worry you will put yourself through.

So that would be the route that I would go with (and was the route that I went with). Check out some...Diamond carpets, jungle carpets, IJ carpets, centralian carpets or if you want something a bit larger go for a coastal carpet

I was "leaning" towards either GTPs, or IJ Carpets. But then with the GTP I thought, what locality!? Jayapura, Sorong, Biak, Papua New Guinea, Kofiau Isle, Aru, etc.

I'll look more into carpets, and now do a bit of locality research with GTPs as far as temperment, possible differences in husbandry, and size.

I've also seen carpet pythons recommended as your "step up" to green tree pythons. I'd go with either the green tree or the ATB myself. Both are pretty fantastic snakes, although I prefer GTP's over ATB's myself.

Are you bent on a boid of some sort? There are some great semi-arboreal colubrids that make excellent display snakes & will allow you to flex your herp husbandry muscle a bit.

SPILOTES!!! Tiger rat snakes are great from what I've seen. They get 7-9' on average and have the body of a ball python girth wise. Look into them

Never been a fan of colubrids really...however I'd like to see some of your suggestions.

Now I'm back to where I started, ATB, ETB, IJ carpets, Coastals, Jungles, or Green Tree Pythons. I'm not in a huge rush to make a decision because it will be a while before I can get them. The only reason I'd shy away from ATB/ETB is because I've always read that its recommended you have experience with other types of snakes (such as carpets/GTP) before you keep them.

The more I look the more confused that I get.

Carpet Pythons are very arboreal! They look great and come in a variety of sizes.
