Shedding Question

We've had our new BP for only about 3 1/2 weeks now. It is a young snake, weighing in around 60 grams.

Q1 - How often do young BP's shed?

Q2 - After having him 3 1/2 weeks, do you think he'll shed soon? So far there's no signs of hazing of the eyes or body.

They average about a shed a month when their young, but the frequency depends on a few different factors including how often they eat, how quickly they are growing, etc. He will shed soon if he has been eating well. At 60 grams, he has probably only shed once since hatching, maybe twice if he was really small when he hatched.

Oh i hate to steal a post but a got some Q's too. My gf snake was starting to show signs of shedding, mine however did not. Yesturday i tried to feed MINE a fuzzie(still young im actually thinking of going back to pinkies) and he struck 2wice but with his mouth close almost like he wansnt really intersted because he didnt end up eating it. And i looked at him today and he has a pink bellie. Should I leave him alone and wait for the shed? And my girlfriend's hasnt shed yet and he had a pink bellie over 2 weeks ago.

Pink Bellies aren't the best indicator to go by. I would wait until his pattern gets dull and darker and starts to cloud his eyes over to say he's in shed cycle.

Just wondering, they aren't housed together right?

Don't worry. If he's eating right and all the husbandry requirements are met, he'll shed when he does. lol. Just wait until you see indicators.

Yeah im sorry for that, i just tough it was in the same subject. Sorry bpdad. But no there not house together and my gf snake has had a dull color and cloudy eyes. Mine is just showing the first effects. If it makes a differenve they were housed together for about a week a long time ago.

That's really not how we operate here. Threads are meant for discussion, and are not some exclusive property of the original poster. If someone has a question related to the topic of the thread, its perfectly acceptable to join in the conversation and ask.

Occassionally, I'll see a new person chime into the middle of a thread with a totally off-topic question. When I see that, I'll gently remind them that their question will get much better attention if they start a new thread.....but that's only because people reading that thread are considering the topic, and not because it's "rude" or "unacceptable."

OK, last week Monty didn't come out of his hide very much, which is unusal for him. Saturday late afternoon I decided to lift up his hide and see what's up with him. To my surprise, Monty's eyes were REAL cloudy and his pattern wasn't looking his usual brightness. He did not attempt to strike or anything, but I put him back in right away. I added a clump of sphagnum moss that I watered down and increased his misting to twice a day to help maintain 70% humidity.

So, questions!

• He hasn't been coming out looking for food. Do I leave him alone or do I pull him out and try and feed him in his usual "feeed box"? Right now he's three days past his scheduled feeding (5 day cycle).
• Is it OK to pull his hide box to check on him or just leave him alone?
• Should I mist him down if it's OK to open his hide box?

I did read through the link above about shedding, thank you! I didn't see anything regarding feeding during the shedding phase though????
