    Caring for boyfriend's snake...need help...

    Ok here's the deal....
Not too long ago, I bought a baby ball python for my boyfriend's birthday. A few days ago my boyfriend got sent by the Navy to hawaii for 5 weeks, therefore leaving me to care for it. He has always been the one who knows about them, but I can't contact him whenever I want to, due to the circumstances of the Navy, so I hope someone on here can help me out....I don't want to have him come home to a sick (or god forbid, dead) snake....

First of all, it isn't eating anymore....It ate once about 2 weeks after we got it, but its been almost a month or more since then and hes ignored every feeding attempt. We used frozen mice every time (he did eat it the first time so not sure whats wrong now)....He also does have mites (sooooo mad at the pet store...anyways) we treated him a few times with a spray but even today i still saw a mite on him....not sure if that has anything to do with the feeding or not (i read something about that affecting it)....also, my boyfriend didnt set the cage up well (I'm reading that you need to keep track of temp and humidity....neither of which he does....all he has is a heating pad under the cage - should i buy other things???)
I know the humidity isnt that great becuase his first shed wasnt all in one piece and he has had a dented eye at one point (fine now however)....

Anyhow if anyone could help or give me any advice on any of this (or anything else you think i should know) I'd appreciate it, thanks

    Meg

Hi Meg! Welcome to BP.net! : I really hope we're able to help you get all this figured out. And it'll be like another b-day present for your bf to come home to a happy, healthy snake that is well cared for.

I was going to get the link for the caresheet, but Emilio beat me to it. So please read through that carefully. And then after that, if you have more specific questions we can help answer them.

One thing to do is to get some Provent-a-Mite, which can be ordered online. That'll take care of those mites in a jiffy.

And if you'd like a little more personal one-on-one help, please feel free to shoot me a PM and we'll work on getting everything set up together.
