New BP and Rant about Reptile Shop

We got it from the reptile shop last night, Down the street. I felt so sorry for it, my husband surprised me and bought it for me. You would think since they specialize in reptiles they would treat them better. I mean they are so dumb, that they are trying to mate an albino male and a 100% het (mind you only a bit over 800 grams) female im a 10 gallon tank. There are no hides and they just have an over head light.

But yeah, if anyone buys any reptile from them they offer no care information for them at all. They told one guy that his monitor needed to be at 75F, they told us that our macklot would get up to 20 ft and is nippy, and that when one of my husband's friends bought a crocodile off of them that they could feed it processed meat and it would tame it. Stupid people.

But I'll post pictures of our new bp soon. It has nice yellow coloring to it and looks to be I'd say a yearling.

Re: New BP and Rant about Reptile Shop

I got something like that just a couple days ago. I whent to a "tropical Pet store," and i was deciding between a ball python and a red tailed boa, big difference but the red tailed boa was totally emaculately beautiful, and i went to see if they had any good prices on tanks, and i kinda played the stupid role(as in just asking what is required, but still letting them know i wasnt actually stupid) to see if they knew what they were talking about. Turns out they dont know anything. The lady said all u need is an aquarium, The expensive fish kind with a flip lid(nothing on top) and a 4" x 6" UTH. and humidity wasen't a factor and the temp should be ok as long as he has the heat pad on twice a day(4 hrs. each). For both kind of snakes. I just kinda walked out at that point laughing!! Luck they didnt have any snakes at the time, i would have felt bad and bought them all!!
I Got a Ball Python named NATHAIR!!!!!
(Nathair is irish Gaelic for snake)
NATHAIR is the coolest snake i could ever hope to own!
This is my friends and I, on a Saturday night. Might give u a little idea about me, lol.

P.S. I m the one on the far left. Kenny is next to me. And Jimmy is doing his thing on the right.

EVery time anyone "feels sorry" for the animals and buys them from stores like this, you only continue the process. They will only go "Oh, look the way we keep them is perfect, since we are selling them."
Please buy from reputable people who take proper care fo their snakes.
In the pet grooming industry, I have people all the time tell me they "rescued" a puppy from a pet store in deplorable conditions and of course they bought it. I applaud the fact that you(and they) felt compasion for the animal, and that you(and they) wanted to better its conditions. But, please try not to support the people who do this.
Only my own opinion, and in no way am I disparaging you, or your efforts, or your snake. I wish you all the best, and am glad that your new baby will be happy.

Some petstores are pretty much like the village idiot's of the reptile world. Like the pets mart here has full sepcturam lighting over its Leopard Geckos and not over its baby beardies.. LOL

I know that I shouldn't have bought the snake, for many reasons trust me, we battled with the choice for days but in the end the snake won. I agree it only shows them what they are doing is right but I lurk around that store alot, talk to the customers and give them advice. So I like to think that my efforts help. Not necc. justify buying a snake from there but it makes me sleep at night knowing that I do help some people be a little prepared.
