If I've learned anything...
It's to not stick your hand in your snakes tank while it is feeding. From doing simple research on snakes, I've learned that most of the times that people get bit, it was a simple mistake that could have been avoided.
This guy used cold water to get his python to release it's bite. Is that a good idea? I've heard that you can use a little bit of hard alcohol i.e. vodka, rum, etc...(not rubbing alcohol) Is this true? Or is there a better way?
Here's a link to a story i saw on msn.

That has to be a scary experiance, but I have to give the guy credit he stayed fairly calm and was able to think straight enough to get out of that fix. I would imagine that would be the hardest part, most people would just panic. What was that guy thinking reaching in there, though.

Yeah, can't say I'd ever reach in there while it's feeding, or even close to feeding time.

i just cant understand how someone could have a snake of any kinda and think its a good idea- you should see me try to re-get a food of my snakes- i'll use the first pole-ish object around and try not to even get my fist inside the area above the tub- my boyfriend finds it humerous, especially last time when crowley pretty much just laid on top of his 'prey' because it was SO FLIPPIN hard to heat up. ugh. i wound up having to flop it around the side of his tank and that worked really, really well. i also found out that having a snake come at you even if your hand is behind the tub it gives you ungodly recoil speed.

Re: If I've learned anything...
The guy with a 10 foot snake reached in to "help" it eat and apparently he's alone whilst doing so? Well there was a disaster waiting to happen and one that pretty much anyone can figure out is going to happen if you do stupid things like that. Heck unless it was a matter of emergency and the snake's well being is at risk, I stay back and let the snake handle it or would use a long set of tongs or something reasonable like that. Not stick my bare hand in with any feeding snake I don't care what size it is.
I like the info on this thread. Makes a lot of sense to me that anything over 8 feet you should have someone close at hand in case of problems. These sorts of needless incidents getting press only do all of us harm.
