Incubator problems
Hi everyone. Most know that I recently built an incubator out of an old refridge. I siliconed around the plexiglass I put in to keep it airtight. I let it cure for 2 weeks wich it only needs 24 hours. I mounted the fan and plugged it in and closed the door. I checked back later and it still smelt like silicone. right now the door is shut and fan un plugged and it has been a month and it still smells of silicone. The only way it doesnt smell of silicone is if I Leave the door all the way open wich when there is eggs in there I cant have. Will the smell hurt eggs? How do I get rid of the smell? Thank you

LOL. What a DB.
Andre, the smell usually lingers for a long time but as long as it's dry it shouldn't pose any problems. How soon do you plan on putting eggs in there? Just keep it open and eventually the smell will go away.

Re: Incubator problems
Might also want to lay it on its back so the opened-door end is facing upward and all the fumes can get out vertically. Following a foul unplanned sushi thaw of an older fridge we had here at work the one guy who "adopted" it from the loading dock said he had to leave it out like that a goodly long time before the smell effectively dissipated.

Thanx. I wonder also if I put a box of baking soda in there if it will help it?
