    Tub/Dimmer Set Up

How reliable are these set ups as a short term fix. Primarily the dimmer side of the set up. I'm planning on getting one of the tub set ups from mgreptiles that come with the flexwatt already wired.

I know this is not the safest way to control temps but I'm going to an expo on the 10th and I wanna have a just in case set up ready. I'll probably have the tub running off the dimmer for 3 months if I end up purchasing a snake at that time, then upgrading to probably a helix and afterwords housing all my snakes in a rhino raxx. Would it be irresponsible for me to house for 3 months in this set up? Does anybody have any experience with this sort of set up?

    Re: Tub/Dimmer Set Up

some people use it as a permanent set-up. it works fine if the room you're keeping the snake in doesnt really change in temperature a lot throughout the day. if the room does chane temperature a lot then you'll need a thermostat.

I have some set up this way and it works fine, however as posted temps will fluctuate - I check temps periodically during the day with a temp gun and adjust the dimmer switch accordingly...

Dimmers will work well if your room temps are stable all the time. The only downside is if something happens and the power spikes then the heating element will continue to get hotter since there is no fail safe like with a thermostat.. You just have to keep an eye on that bad boy all the time..
