Re: Hides?
Many snakes...but ball pythons in particular....prefer to feel completely closed in by their hidey holes. They want to feel the walls and ceiling hugging their bodies. The half-logs are too open and usually way too big.
If you want something naturalistic looking, petstores often have hides that look like rocks turned upside down...or coconut shells cut in half...or other things that would fit in a naturalistic set-up. But you'll pay a bit more for them than you would a simple plastic bowl that you cut a hole in and flipped upside down. Check out LLLReptile or BigAppleHerp for some great ideas on hides.

Just wondering but, what if u put one side against a wall? And the wall of the glass has a cover so there is no view on one side?

Re: Hides?
when i use half logs i simply cover the openings. first i cut a square piece of construction paper that reaches from end to end of the opening on the half log. then i staple the the paper to the half log. (I do this to both openings) after the paper is secured i just cut a snake sized hole in one side so they can get in and out. the only thing is making sure the half log is a good size for the snake. you may need to cut the half log to make it shorter before attaching the paper.
