Getting some girls of mine up to weight

I have some ladies that I would like to try to breed this year.. they are around 600 grams.. Is it possible to get them to around 1500 this year. They all eat like damn pigs... What would you all do.. Try to get them to weight or will they not put that much on.

Maybe someone with more BP experience can reply, but I would not risk it. I have some early 05 females that are pushing 900-950g that are fed one rat per week and have gained about 75-100g a week.


I was considering if they hit 1300g or more by December to pair them up with my Pastel, but I may just wait till next season when hopefully they'll be 1800-2000g.

Again, maybe someone with more BP experience can answer this one for you.

I would wait it out, although I have no breeding experience yet I've learned slow and steady wins the race. From my understanding you will have better odds with a successful clutch if the female is of proper weight and age. Better to wait and have 5 good eggs rather than breeding a little too soon and having 4 bad and 1 good. Just my two cents but I have no exp breeding yet so i can just go off of what i've read and heard.

Yeah i probably should do that. I have 10 females that are ready now all of them are 1500 and buy the time december rolls around they are going to be huge. . Its just these 600 gramers are slamming food fast than I can give it to em. I am not forcing them to eat by no means. I could feed them 3 times a week if i let them.. I now feed them 2 times a week a weaned rat...

I would just keep them on the normal feeding schedual and check them monthly for the weights.How old are they? The age is also important(males 6 months and up females 2 to 3yrs).I have found if you try to rush into breeding attempts you are more then likely to fail.You have plenty of years ahead to breed your snakes.

They are going to grown only as fast as their body will allow and are going to just crap out any extra food you give them, which is somewhat of a waste. 1 small rat a week is more than enough for a 600 gram to grow on.

Why are you feeding twice weekly? I can't see any 600 gram female being of proper weight this coming season quite honestly.

As well 1,500 grams is the minimum you are looking for. As well you need to look at length. In other words a female of 4 feet in length is not up to weight at 1,500 grams in most people's opinion. The general rule of thumb I've been taught is 500 grams per linear foot so a 4 foot female would need to be a minimum of 2,000 grams. Even then just because a female meets the weight guideline may not necessarily mean she is in prime condition to breed that year.
