Re: Crestie Enclosure - Critques?
How nice! Great job Karl! What's the green stuff in the bottom? The plants are live or fake? I read somewhere you could use live plants with cresties but I've always wondered if that meant only certain types of live plants or if that was correct.

Re: Crestie Enclosure - Critques?
Thanks everyone!
the only things i would say are to make sure that the large horizontal branch is plenty secure and if you get a young crested to make sure to keep the water in the dish very shallow until it is close to adult size. also, if you do get a younger gecko and plan to feed it crickets just watch to make sure that it is finding them ok.
He's tested the branch, put pressure on it, and it's nice and secure. The water dish is the smallest little flower pot saucer we could find at Walmart. He's saying now he'd like one a little older, or two - so that he can be sure to get two females if he decides to get two. Two boys won't get along, right? And we don't think we want to breed right now. So, two girls would be the mission.

The green stuff at the bottom is a rubberized mat, the kind you can use as placemats that don't move and he just cut it to fit the bottom. The moss is spanish moss and the plants are all fake, with the exception of the potted ivy. We did keep in mind what plants are toxic to our fur babies and figured the same would apply to a baby crested, and ivy seems fairly safe.
I even asked him on the plant in the middle back, if the leaves were sharp on the edges, wanted to make sure crestie didn't leap, slide and cut anything. They're not.
And if we get a baby, we've got a separate sterilite container at the ready until they grow big enough.
Thanks everyone! We're excited, and I love seeing him get really excited about this and get bitten by the herp bug!
Edit - let's also just say - I'm glad this is HIS project, I sure would hate to have to break all that down myself for the thorough cleanings!

sounds good, and if you do get older cresteds it won't be a problem at all, just be aware that hatchlings can drown in water that is too deep. i mean, this is probably not anything i really need to tell you, but i'm just putting it out there.

males sometimes get along if they were raised together from hatchlings and as long as a female is not introduced into the enclosure with them, but you really can't count on that at all. if you want more than one, two females are going to be your best bet. oh, and trust me--sooner than later, you WILL want more than one.
