uncollapsed egg

OKay, So My first ever clutch is at day 55- 2 days ago I cut 3 of them just because this is my first clutch and I was a little taken back by how much they dimpled/collapsed. I will probably never cut again, but I just wasn't sure if there was something wrong or what, and I just had to see if there was something in there!

LOL, anyways, my question is this : 3 out of the 4 collapsed and they all have babies. The 4th one I did not cut because it is as perfectly round as the day it was laid. IS there something wrong with it, or is it just going to take longer to hatch? I candled it, and I didn't really see anything move last night, however, I have seen movement in there before. All the veins look healthy and the egg isn't rotting or anything.

So this is normal for one egg to just not collapse at all? Should I just leave it alone? Its so tight i dont think i could cut it if i wanted too

I don't know....give Adam a call! He's on vacation but you might be able to get him for a few minutes!

I would probably have already cut it, but that is me. The best advice I can give, is that if the babies in the eggs that you cut start poking their heads out, and look like they are getting ready to crawl out, and you haven't seen any piping marks or cuts in that last egg, that I would cut it at that point. For what it's worth, all of my clutches this year, I cut on day 52 and they all hatched between day 56 and 57. Hope that helped.

Thank you so much for your replies! I decided to cut it, and there's def. a baby in there, alive and well. Lots of yolk left still, so I guess it just needs so more time before its ready to come out. I feel a million times better now, thank you

I'm just like Tim here, I probably would've cut the whole clutch already. I just get anxious to see what is in those little eggs! As far as the still-round egg, it likely just absorbed a little more water than the others, so never collapsed. Was it buried in the incubation medium more than the rest of the clutch?


Congrats by the way! You'll see thier little heads poking out of the eggs soon enough.
