help!! very worried...
ok i bought a baby red tail thats about 22' long.. when i first got him home he was wondering around peeping out his new enviorment. well after having him for about 7 days i decided to try to feed him. the owner at the pet store said they were eating frozen adult mice, so i asked for one and they said they just sold the last few adult mice and wouldnt be getting any in for a couple days. so i decided to buy a live mouse. i got it home and noticed the mouse was WAY bigger than the snakes widest part. so i decided to wack the mouse and leave it in the tank. the snake would go by it. taste it and wonder away... it seems like for the past few days hes been more lazy than usual. should i be worried?.. i have a bp and i know they get very stressed and become picky eaters/ wont eat at all... are red tail boas similar with not eating if their in a new home and possibly stressed?...
by the way. temps are dead on.
oh and just so i dont have to start anymore threads and waste any more space,
what is the growth rate of a male at 22 inches?..
and judging by 22 inches long, approx how old could he be?...

i would try giggleing it in front of his face. sometimes that helps. dont get to freaked out yet. give him one more week before trying to feed again.

Re: help!! very worried...
if the prey item was way too big, perhaps wait a week and try an appropriately sized mouse.
i believe the sizes can be seen in the FAQ stickie at the top of this forum
yup... it had the answers... here they are!
10. What do all those boa acronyms mean? RTB, BCI, BCC?
RTB - red tailed boa
BCI - Boa Constrictor imperator. This is one of the subspecies of red tailed boas. It is the most common and includes Colombian, Nicaraguan, Central American, and Hog island boas as well as a few more less common localities.
BCC - Boa Constrictor constrictor. This is the second most common subspecies. Localities include Surinam, Guyanan, and Peruvian as the most common.
11. What are the average adult sizes of BCI? BCC?
BCI - 6.5' - 9' sometimes over 10'
BCC - 7.5' - 10'

Aleesha, I think he was asking for an idea as to how old HIS was, being only 22" long.
