It helps them feel like they aren't exposed as they rustle around between and under it. It's a wonderful trick to help settle down a nervous snake.

Also is Zeke's tank in a high traffic area if so that could be the reason. High Traffic = High Stress. Also the noise and/or light from the TV or computer might be bothering him.
