Finally have a plan.. Q for pastel breeders.

I finally have a breeding plan in the works. I have two breedable females right now; getting a male Pastel shipped this month. I plan to breed him to both of the girls, and then sell off the babies (keeping one female for Super Pastels) and using the proceeds to buy either a male Spider, or, if the property management biz allows it for us, a male pied.

Now here's the question.. for you who have bred Pastels. For a norm female and a pastel male, what is an expectible ratio of pastels to normals? I am just curious; can this question be answered or is it too unpredictible?

It's predictable... you have a 50% chance of getting pastels, which is true for all co-doms (and all hets bred to normals). I think you'll find that most people don't get an even 50/50 split, although I'm sure that's what they average out to.

You never know what the ratio will be, so 50% is only a possibility. Some people have gotten lucky with 8 pastels out of 9 eggs. And the reverse, 1 pastel out of 6 eggs.

No one can tell you what you will get per clutch, but mother nature will decide what you do get.

    Good luck with the breedings!!

50% is the average, given a large enough sample(eggs) it will average 50%. flip a coin 100 times see how heads, how many tails. the more eggs the better chance of hitting the 50% average.

    Jen,
Just to give you a run down on how it worked for us this year. We had three clutches of Pastel to Normal. 1st clutch - 3 Pastels and 3 Normals ; 2nd clutch - 1 Bad egg, 2 Pastels and 4 Normals ; 3rd clutch - 4 Pastels and 3 Normals. For us total was 9 out of 19. However, like the others said, I could've gotten 15 or I could've gotten 2. You just never know, but I'll send you all of the good luck that I can afford. At least you are starting with a great looking Pastel male. Congrats again on acquiring him.
