    Spider Prices

I think instead of getting a pastel male next year, I will get a female spider - that way i could breed my normal to the pastel and the spider- if i were to produce just one pastel male the next year i could get supers & bumbles- if just a spider i could still get spiders + bumbles. thing is- i'll want an '06.
i've looked around on different sites, but its hard to find what i should expect to pay on a yearling spider female. nerd has an '05 with nice white set at 3,800.
should i be aiming around that goal for next year or higher?
note that the snake would be atleast a year and a few months (i'd be ready around july '07).
Reasonable or should I save extra?

This is all speculation i think- because i could probably just breed the pastel & crowley in 3 years, and just work my way then. HM.
    so much to think about.

    Re: Spider Prices

I think that deal sounds good "now," but remember, its going to take 2-3 years to raise a female spider and pastel up to size. Get your girls going to get a head start, and pick up a pastel male next year for next year's price. I wouldn't waste a female spider and female pastel on a normal male especially considering how affordable male pastels are becoming. This way you have a shot a bumblebees and super pastels in 2-3 years, while the plan you presented above puts those morphs off 4-5 years at best.

    Re: Spider Prices

I know I have to work the females to weight- this 'project' wouldn't start until '09 regardless. How long it takes to get to the goal isn't the issue- getting the females before 4 year starts is, right now, my 2 year is free and i have a well paying job- i have set goal of savings, everything else goes to my animals and my art supplies and... that dang car.. anywhoo

it really boils down to do i want to get pastels and make pastels with a 25% shot at making supers- and work my way into a spider
or use what i have now, with the resources to get a female spider in this upcomming year and (presuming things go right) make spiders & pastels and then depending make bumbles+supers (again, if genitically things fall right) in one-2 years.

if i went the pastel only approach, i would then around '10 buy a spider female either hatchling or yearling and wait another 3-4 years on that.

But enough about that, what about what i should expect for a -nice- spider female?

    Re: Spider Prices

With male pastels going for 300-500, a male pastel in 1 or 2 years (still 1 year before you would breed him to your females) would be a good investment.

Instead of just getting pastel and spider babies, you would have a shot at pastel, spider, super pastel, and bumblebees for a moderate increase in cost

    Re: Spider Prices

You know- I was contemplating that at work- then again, I could just look for an '06 female next year and a male atleast 1 year prior to breeding season. Two pastel females. wouldn't mind waiting with that.

    Re: Spider Prices

There is a reptile store in Miami that has a very nice looking spider for 1999.00. I alomost bought it yesterday, but wasnt sure if it was quite worth it. I take 1999.00 is good?

I have seen prices from $1500 to $2500 so far this year. It depends on what the animal is worth to you and who the source is

There is a lot of competition when it comes to selling spiders, $1500 to $1700 seems to be a good deal at the moment. You can always pay extra, depends on if you want to pay for reputation as well.

There is a lot you can do with a spider, not to mention the fact they are awesome looking snakes!

    Re: Spider Prices

Spiders are awesome in their own right, honestly. In terms of the petshop, I'd rather know the breeder, not the seller.
In the end i think i will either wind up with a second pastel female + a male or a spider female. oh ho ho.
or crowley and the pastel. i could always use a nice boaphile (shut up i dont care i lourve those cages and want a few eventually LOL)
