Tongs/tweezers/hemostats are good. I bought 2 pairs of 12" hemostats from LLL, one for each snake so as to eliminate possible cross contamination on feeding day - then I just throw them in the dishwasher so they're clean (and not rat/mouse smelly) for the next feeding day.
I think what I've gleaned from BP.net is if in doubt, go smaller because small, regular meals helps keep your snake digesting well, feeding regularly and not obese.
