Your snake probably wants more secure hides; nothing more to think about, really. I used to use half-logs myself, but I switched to my favorite type of hide; you can get them right at wally world. They're the plastic "terra cotta" looking trays that go below a flowerpot to catch water; just carefully cut an entrance in (we used a saws-all), sand it down a bit and there you go. Simple to clean after a messy snakey bowel movement, non porous, great.
I do use size-appropriate cardboard boxes for hides too, but unless you're prepared to change them a lot whenever water hits them, I wouldn't recommend.
