quesetion re: albinos + axanthics = a white snake?

I have read that breeding an albino to an axanthic produces an all white BP; first of all, is this true? Second, if so, is this how to produce a leucy? I thought that involved yellowbellies...? I am very con-fuzzled here; please enlighten me!

To the best of my knowledge, albino x axanthic was the first "combo" morph to be accomplish. Or the first double-het combo, anyhow. It's called "Snow" and they are mostly white with red eyes. But they do have some pattern visible and get darker with age.

Re: quesetion re: albinos + axanthics = a white snake?

Here's another question (thanks for the info.) Would all the babies from that clutch be snows, or would there be anything resembling a normal? My brain has trouble believing anything normal could come out of that; am I a nut?

Re: quesetion re: albinos + axanthics = a white snake?

Depends on which clutch you're talking about. If you have a pair of Double Hets (albino and axanthic) these are the possiblities that you could see in any given clutch:

    normal
    het albino
    het axanthic
    double het
    albino
    axanthic
    albino het axanthic
    axanthic het albino
    snow

Any normal looking babies would be "poss dh for snow" meaning they could be carrying both genes or one of either. The visible morphs would be "albino poss het axanthic" etc....because there's no way of knowing which genes went where until they prove out via breeding.

    Aren't Double Hets FUN???

(disclaimer....I THINK I got all the above info correct...I'm sure someone will let me know if I left something out or otherwise messed up!)

Aha! I did not know that. In that case, let me rephrase....the Snowball was the first DH combo that ~I~ ever heard of!

But at least I got my list of possible babies right! Didn't I?

In that case, all the babies would LOOK normal, but they would all be 100% DH for Snow.

    Okay, Ms. Smarty Pants!

Adam and I were talking on the phone a few weeks ago, and we were discussing all of the possible outcomes from a Bumblebee Het Axanthic to a Pastel Het Axanthic. See if you can list all of the outcomes... (There's a bunch!)
