i was wondering, can i use any kind of sand (vita-sant,calci-sand etc.)
in my boa's tank?

and how long would a 20gal be good enough?

I would use reptibark if you want a natural look. I used it for a while but when to aspen because its cheaper. Paper towels work good also

im just curious, why cant i use calcisand for vitasand? it says its safe for snakes and ive seen people use it before....


i think il stick to aspen or reptibark but im just curious about the sand

It's fine for sand boas, etc. but it is the "anti-humidity" for snakes that require a higher humidity environment. Also, with bigger boas, when they release urates, there's a lot of liquid that will infiltrate the entire bottom of the enclosure, because the sand doesn't absorb it. You'd have to remove it all everytime and start over or else risk running a bacteria farm in the enclosure. With aspen, etc. you can spot clean and only do whole substrate change a few times a year.
