Albinos and hets?

Do you guys see the price coming down on hets in the next year or 2 at all. The reason I ask is because I am getting ready to buy a pair of het albinos. When they are ready to breed a couple few years from now, do you guys think the price will be stable enough to be worth it. sort of, a project to get my money back out of it and nothing more. Whats your oppinions on it?

If you were to buy a pair of het albinos, or even a homozygous albino male and a trio of het albino females, lets say you would have approximately $3300 invested, plus the three years to raise the females and feed them/clean them every week. If you got 4 eggs out of all three of your hets, and hit on the odds at 50% albinos, you'd have 6 albinos to sell... and even if the market for them was around $1000 a piece by then, or even half that at $500/ea, then you'd have $3000 in your first year, with a basic "freeroll" on subsequent years/breedings.

In my opinion, no matter what anyone spends on a project TODAY, it's always worth it....as long as it's worth it to THEM!

I'm reminded of a good friend of mine investing $45,000 into an animal that's currently being pawned on KS for about $6500/ea. I think he's still quite glad that he invested the $45k when he did, and didn't wait until this year... or later. The market is there, stable and the price will always reach or exceed the demand.

I've seen Albino BP's for sale as low as $1500. That $1500 publicly probably means $1000-$1250 exchanging hands, it's sad! Hets, I've seen pairs already going for $500-$600, again sad! Buy a female get a free male sales!


It's real sad to see what is going on with BP's on these classifieds. I remember early this year wanting a Spider BP so bad and seeing them at $4000-$5000, now I see them all over for as low as $1295. Just last month the lowest price was $2000-$2250, now you can pick up a Spider for $1250? And all it takes is one guy on KS to price them lower than the rest and the sheep will follow, soon Spiders are below the $1000 mark! How low will it go?


Do any of these guys see that they are only hurting the hobby/business? I use to drive myself crazy over this, but now I just laugh and know I'll be able to buy the same morphs I wanted and was saving for, except at 80% of what I was willing to pay...

I'd just like to ask the BP sellers, are they selling so much more at $1500 a pop? Is it supply and demand? Is the demand not there to justify $3000 for a Spider or $2500 for an Albino? Were buyer complaining or not paying $3000 for a Spider 3 months ago?
Just curious...?

I agree 100% with ddbjdealer! Breaking even in your 1st year is not bad at all by any means! Hold back a few, breed again and make a nice profit in the years to come.

The breeding lifespan of a pair of ball pythons is 20+ years ... If you were to pick up a pair and pay $600, even if you were to produce only possible hets for the next 20 years not only will you make your money back several times over, but you'll still have a pair of het albinos to boot. There is no better investment on the planet.

But as with any investment, don't spend what you can't afford to lose and you'll be fine.

I agree with Adam 100%.But we are forgeting one point , don't you guy's want to have these animal's money a side.Let me explain , when I first saw an albino I was amazed and I thought I need to have that. Now do I want to make some money yes I do , but I also want to breed and keep back a female albino. Also I do think they'll keep holding their value , their just way to cool and rare for them to go down so much.

Also if you never sale a snake then guess what you got. A bunch of free animals (hatchlings) that you love and like to keep and raise.

That's exactly how I'm looking at my future BP collection. Having some really nice snakes and possibly reproducing some really nice snakes. I always wanted a Pied BP as well as a few other BP morphs, whether they are $10,000 or $5000 or $500, I think they are amazing snakes and look forward to seeing one or a few in my reptile room.

I think everyone is right on the mark here. When we started getting into morphs, it was difficult to separate the money aspect from everything else. I finally came to the realization, that if I don't make a cent from breeding, I am OK with that. This is my hobby now, and will be for a long time. So any money I make back is just icing on the cake.

i bought a male pastel 2 yrs ago, i made my money back in one clutch! as far as investment, balls are one of the best "legal" investments i've seen...

Alright then. Looks like I'll have to send out for a pair of hets as soon as I can. Been doing heating and A/C all week so I should pull 200$ out of this all. Almost at 500$ if I get what I want from this job. Nothing ever goes as planned so why would I assume that? Do you guys think anyone would be willing to do a payment plan on 600$ worth of snakes?
