substrate question
currently i am using carefresh - but it is not very aesthetic. I want what is best for the snake but also somewhat aesthetically pleasing. I also have a problem with julius burrowing down to the bottom of the carefresh and lying up against the bottom of the enclosure - and I worry that she will burn herself
thanks!

Re: substrate question
Are you using glass or plastic?
Doesn't matter much, but maybe repti-bark if you want the mulch-look, or aspen or sani-chips if you want a more uniform look to it.

Re: substrate question
glass
which one holds humidity better?
right now I have a 30g, under tank heater, CHE, and a digital thermometer (90.4F on warm side, 81.1 on cooler side, humidity is consistently 56%)
are these conditions ideal? i wish there was a better way to house the digital thermometer.. it has a really long cable to the probe at the other end of the tank
help!

Re: substrate question
Have a look at the two setups in this thread.
I use aspen in my vivariums and the humidity is fine.

Re: substrate question
I use the compressed block stuff and it works great.

A popular cocunut fiber "block" substrate is made by Eco Earth...it's available a lot of places, including Petco and Petssmart.

ZooMed Eco Earth and T-Rex Forest Bed are the same thing and they are both on sale at Petco for $4.00 a block.

Re: substrate question
While not very exciting to look at, unprinted paper is the cleanest substrate you can use. If you are wanting what is best for your animal, then you can't beat it!

Re: substrate question
i am having a lot of trouble managing the temperature - it is jumping around too much. i have a 30 gallon tank, with the CHE and UTH at one end, and nothing at the other. However, the temperatures are still at around 87/91
how can i keep a good 10 degree difference between one end and the other?
thanks
