i have a humidity problem
i have had a red talein the past, but i hade to let hem go. so i got a BP now. so i named the un sexed sullak,(witch means darked eyeed one).ok i have sullak in a forty gallon tank, two hiding places, some fake plants. i am using aspen snake beadding. the humidity will droup to about 35%. so i got a reptil humidifer & air exchanger. the humidity will not go up. so i got some wet clean rags put them over the top of the tank. the humidity will go to about 65%for about three hours. the rags dry out then back to 35%. the temp is about 85-90 in hot 75-80 in cool. i was using cardbord to help cover the top of the cage. then i thought of the rags. what can i do to get it up. he wont eat.i have had hem for two and a half weeks now. sullak is about one month old. i got hem from petco. i have tryed pinkies & fuzzies with no luck. he will slither all over me when i take sullak out,but in his cagehe will not use his hides. he just sets under his heat lamp. i dont know what to do so, tomarrow i think i will get turf. if any body has any info for me. i would appreciate the help. sorry i was not very good in english class.

Woah Woah Woah
First of all, you might want to get a smaller cage or get a rubbermaid bin, because if there is alot of space in your tank that is just open, your snake might get stressed. (At least what I've heard.) Rubbermaids are easier to keep humidity in because they don't have that screen lid.just drill holes in it, and put hides and a thermometer/hygrometer in it.
What kind of Hygrometer are you using?Thermometer?
An easy way to keep humidity up is put the water bowl under the heat lamp.

Re: i have a humidity problem
I would really recommend a Rubbermaid or other plastic tub. I've had my pair of adult pythons for about 3 months now. They used to be in a wooden terrarium with mesh on the top and I had to spray every few hours to keep the humidity up; I moved them into plastic tubs a few weeks ago and haven't had any problems since.

However, they don't need, nor desire all the room. The key here from your quote is "I like". Remember, ultimately it's not about what "we" as keepers like - it's about what your snake likes and will thrive in.
Did you also disinfect the enclosure that housed the RTB before you introduced the ball python to it? Not just cleaned - but disinfected?
A few more questions after re-reading your original post. How are you heating the enclosure? I see mention of heat lights, but no mention of a UTH (Under Tank Heater). Bulbs will suck the humidity right out of the tank - a UTH will provide the needed belly heat to aid in digestion.
You also mentioned that your baby was not eating. How big are your hides? Are they nice and snug? He may not be using them if they are too big.
Here's what I have my babies set up in, and they have eaten every week for me. They are eating small adult mice right now. This is a 15 quart tub from Dollar General. Of course, one of these set-ups per snake. The green box has since been replaced with an identical hide that's in the right side of the picture, so now picture two of the flower pot saucers as hides in there.
