    Question

i am wondering how you heat racks and tubs. do heat pads work?? i would think that they melt the plastic ....
If you love somebody, let them go. If they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were

    Re: Question

As long as you have a good thermostat connected to the heat pad, it wont melt it. You heat racks and tubs with heat pads and flexwatt.

    Re: Question

do you use steralite?? i can buy "racks" at walmart for a total of $10 that would hold my JCPs Boas and BPs ... that would be bretty sweet, and would save alot of space. What temp would melt the plastic?? i'm kind of leary about using racks, just b/c i know that if they melt, a snake could get very badly burned

    Re: Question

The 'racks' you can buy at walmart are not secure enough for snakes. You need to either build your own, or buy a rack made specifically for reptiles.

If the heat pad is getting hot enough to melt the plastic, it can also melt your snake. It's VERY important to have a thermostat connected to your heating pad to control the heat output. Most racks come with flexwatt heat tape installed.. all you need is the thermostat to plug into it.

    Re: Question

You can also use heat cable routed into the shelving. I bought my rack from Animal Plastics and the shelves came with pre-made grooves in the back 1/3 of each one...all I had to do was push the heat cable (included) into the grooves. It heats the rack perfectly, I use a Ranco thermostat.

    Re: Question

is that the same type of heat cable that you would buy at a pet store?

It's a higher-grade heat cable, it comes with the rack. If you want their heat cable separate, they do sell it, you just have to contact them and ask. For a length to fit a 6-slot adult rack, it's $33 plus $6 shipping.
