Pink Still?
Hi guys, I'm kind of a new owner...took a kind of neglected adult ball from a guy going home after college...I'm still adjusting the heats and humidity, will be getting a bigger tank and therms soon.
In the meantime: my ball just shed a few days ago (almost whole! more humidity!), and fed the day afterwards...but the end of the underbelly, I guess the tail, still has some pink to it. I'm using an UTH and newspaper in a glass tank (overcast days I may offer a light during the day)...the paper's folded in half and layered a bit...part of the pad has a double layer over it, part of it a single (think thin-ish 'sections' so not a single sheet but several..). His hide is half way over the pad area, giving him a cooler side and a warmer side.
So, is he getting mildly burned or does the pink stick around a little while afterwards? I've read the FAQs but it didn't tell me much about how long it takes for the pink shed belly to fade back to normal. I find it odd that its only near the end, if he was getting burned it be more widespread, right?
Thanks for any advice!

Re: Pink Still?
Jenna.
I've never noticed any pink after a shed. I'd recommend getting a thermostat or dimmer on that heating element. It is possible that you are dealing with a burn. It sounds like a trip to the vet would be very beneficial. You can have it checked for internal parasites, and have that area thoroughly checked.
Also make sure you are measuring temperatures with a digital thermometer, and reading the temps on the ground. Those heating elements can get VERY hot. Good luck with the your new addition. :sweeet

Re: Pink Still?
hmm..he's had the paper that way over the uth for a month or 2 now (before that it was the mulchy stuff)...and the pink is light, only at the tail, while he'll sleep all over both the cool and the warm sides, back and forth, depending on his needs...if this was a burn, wouldnt it be all over his underbelly?
until I can get to a vet, can I do anything to help it? (neosporin maybe?)
