I don't feed my boa in his cage at all, I take him out put him on the bed and feed him there. That is his preference so I do it. I don't see the harm in it, if they are eating great. Do what ever it takes. Does your snake not want to eat in the cage?

i never tried it in the tank, its just that when i bought it, the pet store told me that its better to feed the snake outside of the tank just b/c then they associate eating w/ outside of the tank and they wont ever bite u when u put ur hand in the tank...it sounds smart...

again, i wouldn't take pet stores advice, The only petstores advice I would take around here about snakes is vet pets because the guy that owns it breeds and keeps snakes and he knows about them, places like hole in the all petshops, petco, petsmart, etc, don't know much about the snakes they sell.

but I have fed in the tank before and havent been bitten, there are plenty of people that feed inside the tank, usually if you get bitten over feeding it's because you still have a hint of mouse or rat on your hand. But honestly, I've never had that problem. You can feed inside or outside the cage, which ever way your snake eats best.

Well guy's I feed my snake's in their enclosure's and I've never been bit.I guess it's whatever you feel comfortable doing. But the whole explanation isn't completely accurate.I handle my Bp's twice a week sometime's three they don't confuse my hand for food and never have.

If you are referring to the explanation when I said they could bite because you have a hint of mouse or rat on your hand, I was just saying it could happen because I know alot of people it has happened to, but i have never had a problem with it, I have pet rats and hold them all the time and then pick my snakes up, never been mistaken as food or bit.

well some have bad tempers, the reduced pattern balls at vetpets struck at everything, though I wanted them alot I did not have enough money for them and they proper cage so I have to wait on them. But yes over all bp's are pretty docile and if you buy them and they aren't they calm down usually fairly easily.

Not all BP's are docile. And even the docile ones can and will bite if provoked to do so, either out of fear, or due to a feeding error. (If your hand smells like a rodent, for instance). You may never get bit....but don't assume that because it hasn't happened that it never could.

As for feeding inside/outside the snake's enclosure....the whole "theory" that a snake will become aggressive if fed in its own home is bunk, and doesn't even make any sense if you just think about it for a moment. If it were true, then the snake would also associate being taken OUT of its enclosure with feeding time and then become aggressive every time you took it out....yes?

Some people feed outside the enclosure for a variety of reasons, but it is not something you MUST do. If it is working for you, then fine. If it's not, then there's nothing wrong with trying it the other way.
