How many bad bites so far?

How many bad bites from your redtails have you got? Just got my first real bite. I didn't SCRUB my hands after holding the rats, I just washed them for maybe 30 seconds and Ruby went into full feeding mode even though she apears to be in shed. Never changing water bowls again without SCRUBBING my hands first. I'll get pics when I get a new USB cable. Stupid mistake. Bite marks go from my pointer finger all the way to my pinky finger, imagine if she was much bigger than 5'!!

I answered never (btw it's "too" not "to" lol) but it's not from being too smart, it's just that the only bite big Rauri ever inflicted was so minor it couldn't be called bad at all. I've been bit by a BP worse than Mike was nailed by Rauri, heck I was nailed by a preggie female rat the other day that did worse damage. Bites happen, most of them are our fault or just part of owning snakes so I never really think about them much. They are so infrequent around our house (though we get hissed at here and there)

Apache has drawn blood on me a few times; one was pretty bad on my wrist! But I always keep in mind that it was my fault. He is just not a snake you can grab without thinking from his enclosure; and he can bite from ANY angle!

This is the only bite Rauri ever did. He did once snap at my swinging ponytail but didn't connect (but disconcerting though lol). Mike and I didn't even really count this as a bite, more of a love tap. Rauri never even clamped down, just basically slapped Mike's arm with his mouth. People at his work nearly freaked though and wanted to see the big snake bite. I think they were actually disappointed that it basically had disappeared by the next day LOL.

i have 20+boas and have never been bit. i am extreemly cautious. i have been struck at. i used to handle wild rattle snakes as a teenager. i just use the same wearyness.

Yep, You always have to remember its always your fault. I wasn't expecting it. She usually hisses when I open the cage if she doesn't want to come out otherwise she meets me at the door. I knew the rat smell wouldn't come off that easily. Joanna, I can't wait to post pics of my bite, it will make you thankful that he didn't tear your hand up.

I've been bitten by the babies, but never by the adults (knocks on wood). One of my babies really intends harm on my thumb. LOL!!!

lol, the avator made your post even better. I'm really looking forward to posting pics of my bite marks now. I better start taking more precautions now that shes starting to get some size. At 5' and 8 lbs. its not that big of a deal but when she gets bigger a bite like this will leave some scar tissue I think

I have had my red tail for almost 2 years, I have been struck at..only at feeding time while he was in his tub and struck at the movement outside the tub, but never has he struck at me otherwise.... nor have I been bitten.
