newbe here. could i get some opinions please!!!

ok. So I know I'm a newbe, my first snake EVER was a ball python last Oct/Nov 05. After realizing I'm now a total snake lover, I got a black blood python. I know I don't even come close to knowing everything, but I have been doing research, and I'm sorta proud of my self for knowing what I do know.

Now here is my questions/RANTS!!!! LOL

Ok, I just back from my weekly trip to the local pet shop. Where I was talking with a couple of the employees. I usually go after work, and get along good with that "shift" of employees. But anyways their were a couple of girls working today, and they were asking me about my setup, what kind of snakes i own and so on. They basically said everything I as doing was WRONG. Again, I don't claim to know everything, and I am aware I don't, but i do DO my research.

SO I WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME OPINIONS

Heres my setups and theirs problems....

    ME
I just switched from aspen to newspaper for a substrate. I like it way better, cheaper, and easier to clean. I've read online in many sites that this is a suitable substrate.

    THEM
I should never use newspaper as a substrate, Always aspen! The newspaper will not help with my humidity (which I now DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH)
and that newspaper will cause scale rot.

    ME
I use a UTH. I've read that this is WAY better then a light or Ceramic heater (which i used to use a CH). I told them when I used the CH it basically dried up my aquarium and caused humidity problems.

    THEM
I should use a basking light or CH and position it over my water bowl for good humidity. And that CH are way better then UTH. I should not use a UTH.

Ok. So am I doing everything wrong or what?????

My temps are perfect. I did have a problem with my bloods humidity at first, but resolved that with the UTH and some plexi glass to cover some of the top of the aquarium

Belly rot can occur with any wet dirty bedding some poor snake is forced to lay on. You might mention to them I've seen a heck of a lot more rotten looking bellies coming out of pet store snakes than I've seen in personal collections.

According to them you should put a source of heat for your warm side OVER a big arse water dish to up your humidity. Okay so then your snake is therefore forced to lay in said water dish in order to get to that heat source and thermoregulate. Well isn't that just a nifty plan of action...jeeze...NOT!

Ignore them, listen to folks that make a lot more sense. Take any information you get online or in person with a grain of salt and a dose of common sense and make sure you check that information against what you know and what you can research independently. You won't go wrong that way.

You'll still be getting some paybacks for that one, even if you're just joking. Just you wait. I'm thinking of some suitable punishments presently.

And nope I'm not politically minded, I just have to spread the love. I can't pick on just Cue.

Jo wins the best advice of the day award!

Even from advice given here, I find it's best to keep researching to verify that information, keep reading, keep looking...=)

If you need help, I can offer some suggestions. Some ... very long .... very slow .... very adult ... "punishments" that I would fine particularly horrifying if I was found alone in a room with a hottie like yourself looking for "payback".

And shhhhhhh ... please don't ever bring up "cue" in conversation with me ... it just ruins everything.
